Domains and HTTPS
A service is reachable from the internet through a domain. Every domain gets HTTPS automatically. Domains carry HTTP traffic only; for databases and other TCP services, see Public TCP.
Generated domains
In the service's Settings → Networking, choose Generate domain. You get a hostname like <service>-<environment>-<random>.fjordrun.app, for example web-production-3f2a.fjordrun.app, with a TLS certificate. Generated domains are available on every plan, including Trial.
Custom domains
Custom domains need the Hobby plan or higher.
In Settings → Networking, type the hostname (for example
app.example.com) and choose Add custom domain. At your DNS provider, create the two records Fjordrun shows:
Type Name Value CNAMEapp.example.comedge.fjordrun.appTXT_fjordrun.app.example.comfjordrun-verify=<token>The TXT record proves you control the domain; the CNAME sends traffic to Fjordrun.
Choose Verify. Once both records are visible in public DNS, the domain becomes active and a TLS certificate is issued. DNS changes can take a few minutes to propagate; verify again if it is still pending.
Apex domains
An apex domain (example.com without a subdomain) cannot have a CNAME record at most DNS providers. Use a provider that supports CNAME flattening or ALIAS / ANAME records pointing at edge.fjordrun.app, or serve the site on www.example.com and redirect the apex there.
Target port
Each domain routes to one container port, its target port, fixed when the domain is created. The dashboard uses the service's current Port (default 8080).
A service that listens on several ports, such as MinIO (S3 API on 9000, console on 9001), can have a domain per port. Create the extra domain through the API with a target_port:
bash
curl -X POST https://api.fjordrun.com/api/v1/services/<service-id>/domains \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $FJORDRUN_TOKEN" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"target_port": 9001}'Add "hostname": "console.example.com" for a custom domain instead of a generated one. Hovering a domain in the dashboard shows the port it routes to.
Several domains
A service can have several domains, generated and custom. FJORDRUN_PUBLIC_DOMAIN contains the first active one.
Removing a domain
Use the remove button next to the domain. Traffic to it stops immediately. Remove the DNS records at your provider as well.
From the CLI
bash
fjordrun domains list # list
fjordrun domains add # generate a *.fjordrun.app domain
fjordrun domains add app.example.com
