Steps

  1. Create a project and add a service per Render service, from the same repository, branch and root directory.
  2. Build and start commands: Render requires them; Fjordrun usually doesn't. Try with them empty first. Commands that run a preview or dev server (npm run preview, vite preview, npm run dev) are ignored by Fjordrun.
  3. Static sites: if Render published a folder such as dist, there is nothing to configure: the builder runs your build and serves the output with nginx, with SPA fallback for Vite, CRA, Vue CLI and Angular apps.
  4. Variables: copy environment variables and environment groups. Use references for connection strings: DATABASE_URL=${{Postgres.DATABASE_URL}}.
  5. Port: Render's default port is 10000; Fjordrun's is 8080. Apps that read PORT need no change. Otherwise set the service's Port.
  6. Deploy, test on the generated domain, then move your custom domain.

PostgreSQL

Render Postgres has an external connection string (in the database's Connect menu). Dump with:

bash
pg_dump "$RENDER_EXTERNAL_DATABASE_URL" --format=custom --no-owner --no-acl --file=render.dump

Then restore it from a one-off container in your Fjordrun project, as described in Railway → Databases.

Domains

Add the custom domain in Fjordrun, create the TXT record, then change the CNAME to edge.fjordrun.app. See Domains and HTTPS.

Fjordrun is hosted in the EU (Hetzner, Nuremberg, Germany). Private beta.
