Next.js

Fjordrun detects Next.js from the next dependency and reads next.config.* to choose how to run it.

js
// next.config.mjs
export default { output: 'standalone' }

The builder runs next build and starts the minimal standalone server with node server.js, listening on 0.0.0.0:$PORT. Images are smaller and start faster.

Default (next start)

Without output, the app runs with:

bash
next start -H 0.0.0.0 -p $PORT

Static export

js
export default { output: 'export' }

The out/ folder is served by nginx. There is no Node.js server, so API routes, middleware and server-side rendering are not available, as with any Next.js static export.

Environment variables

  • NEXT_PUBLIC_* variables are inlined into the browser bundle at build time. Set them in the service's Variables before building. See Build variables.
  • Server-only variables are read at runtime.

Start command

Leave it empty. next dev is ignored as a start command.

Fjordrun is hosted in the EU (Hetzner, Nuremberg, Germany). Private beta.
