Domains and logs

Give the service a public URL

Services are private until you add a domain.

  1. Open the service and go to Settings → Networking.
  2. Choose Generate domain. You get a hostname such as web-production-3f2a.fjordrun.app with HTTPS.

To use your own domain (Hobby plan or higher), type it in the custom domain field and choose Add custom domain, then create the DNS records it shows. See Domains and HTTPS.

Read the logs

Each service has three kinds of logs:

  • Build logs: the clone, what the builder detected, and the output of install and build commands;
  • Deploy logs: the rollout of the new version;
  • Runtime logs: what your app writes to stdout and stderr. You can filter by text and by level (info, warn, error).

Open a deployment to see its build and deploy logs, live while it runs. Runtime logs are in the service view and in the project's Observability tab. From the terminal, use the CLI:

bash
fjordrun logs -f # follow runtime logs
fjordrun logs --build # logs of the latest build

Check metrics

The Metrics tab shows CPU, memory, network and replicas over 1 hour to 7 days, and a Live view that refreshes every few seconds. See Metrics and logs.

When something fails

  • Build failed: read the build log from the top; the first error is usually the cause. Common cases are listed in Build troubleshooting.
  • Crashed after deploy: read the runtime logs. Missing variables and listening on the wrong port are the usual causes.
  • Still stuck? Email support@fjordrun.com with the project and service name.

Fjordrun is hosted in the EU (Hetzner, Nuremberg, Germany). Private beta.
