Deploy a template

Templates are ready-made services: databases, and apps such as n8n or Umami. They are the quickest way to see Fjordrun work. This page deploys PostgreSQL.

1. Create a project

  1. Open the dashboard and choose New project.
  2. Give it a name. Under Start with, pick Template (or Database for the database templates).
  3. Choose PostgreSQL.

You can also add a template to an existing project: open the project, add a service and choose Template or Database. The Templates page in the dashboard lists all of them.

2. Wait for the deployment

Fjordrun creates the service, generates a 32-character password, attaches a persistent volume and starts the container. Templates use prebuilt images, so there is no build step: the service is usually running within a minute.

3. Get the connection details

Open the service. The login details card shows the username, password, database name and connection URL (secret values are hidden until you reveal or copy them). The same values are service variables, for example:

bash
DATABASE_URL=postgresql://postgres:<generated>@postgres.production.internal:5432/fjordrun

The database has no public domain. Other services in the same project and environment connect to it over the private network. Instead of copying the URL, reference it in your app's variables:

bash
DATABASE_URL=${{Postgres.DATABASE_URL}}

See Variables and references and Databases.

Templates that open in a browser

Apps such as n8n, Umami, Langflow or the MinIO console need a public domain. Open the service, go to Settings → Networking and choose Generate domain. The login details card tells you how to log in, for example Umami's default admin / umami login, which you should change immediately.

Templates can also be deployed from a link, for example from a README:
